Artistic Director of Tapiola Choir

As Master of Music, choral conductor and sopranista Pasi Hyökki has studied under Claudine Ansermét, Christina Miatello and Gloria Banditelli in Urbino, Italy. He gave his concert debut as a soprano soloist in Händel’s Messiah oratorio in 2003, and in 2004 he had his first solo concert at the Viitasaari Time of Music Festival, where he also premiered songs that had been composed for him by Sampo Haapamäki, Perttu Haapanen and Seppo Pohjola.

He is the artistic director of Tapiola Choir, YL Male Voice Choir and the Talla Vocal Group (founded by Hyökki). He is also the founder of EMO Ensemble, of which he gave up his position as artistic director and handed the responsibility to the Artistic Committee in Autumn, 2014. Currently he holds the position of Principal Guest Conductor EMO Ensemble. Alongside his main line of work, he also performs as a male soprano soloist.

Hyökki has received awards for the Best Choral Conductor in the Chorus Review at the Tampere Vocal Music Festival in 1997, the “Italian in… Canto sul” contest in 2001 and in the Harald Andersén Chamber Choir Competition in 2003. He actively makes records with all his choirs and also acts as an editing producer. His newest publications include Lux Aurumque by YL and On valo syttynyt ikkunaas by Tapiola Choir (2012), a full recording of the choral songs for male voices by Toivo Kuula and a sheet music publication with YL (2013), as well as Kotipoltto (2014) by YL, consisting of Finnish pop hits.
